Holiday fun programme
Self-protection and self-defence (SuS)
Holiday fun 2025 with self-protection and self-defence: a successful afternoon
A fully booked event, 5 trainers, 18 children and 3 hours of games, fun and self-defence: that's what you could experience on 27 August 2025 in the sports hall in Eggenstein! Once again, our SuS group took part in the municipality's holiday fun programme and taught curious children the most important aspects of self-defence. The programme, which was planned and carried out by our junior trainers, was quite something: rules and the programme were briefly introduced in a short theory section before moving straight on to the basics of self-defence. Standing correctly, maintaining an upright posture and protecting your head are undoubtedly part of successfully asserting yourself. This was followed by scenario training, which is popular with children: the trainers playfully reenacted scenes on the way to school or on the bus and train, putting the children's behaviour to the test. After thorough training, the children defended themselves in an exemplary manner. This was followed immediately by pad training to practise the correct punching and kicking techniques, before moving on to breaking free from holds towards the end. The day ended with a question and answer session and, of course, the ever-popular final game. A great day came to an end – we are delighted to be part of the holiday fun programme again this year! And maybe one or two of you would like to come along training sessions? In any case, we are delighted and would like to express our gratitude to the wonderful children and our coaches, who organised the programme with flying colours.
3-hour crash course on 2 September 2022
On 2 September 2022, our self-protection and self-defence group once again took part in the holiday fun programme organised by the municipality of Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen. In the afternoon, a small but enthusiastic group of interested children and young people gathered in the Eggenstein Hall, where they enjoyed a varied programme on the topic of ‘realistic self-defence’ over the course of three hours. After a short warm-up game, the participants first learned how to set boundaries and enforce them, and soon showed what they were capable of. This was followed by initial techniques for escaping from holds, and training for specific scenarios such as the way to school or behaviour on public transport was not neglected either. Finally, the children were able to try their hand at punching and kicking pads – our dummy ‘Charles’ had to take quite a beating here. At the end, both the trainers and participants were happy. It was great to be able to take part in the holiday fun again this year and we look forward to more events in the future.
3-hour crash course on 27 August 2021
26 children learn the most important aspects of self-defence in a playful manner.
Games, fun and self-defence – children and young people were able to experience all this during the holiday fun event ‘Self-defence for everyone’. Once everyone had been tested, we gathered in front of the hall at 2 p.m. and shortly afterwards took to the mats:
After a few warm-up games, the participants first learned the most important basics of self-defence. According to the trainers, body language, self-confidence and the ability to set and enforce boundaries play an important role in this. The children were then shown how to defend themselves in an emergency: even simple tricks and so-called ‘schoolyard techniques’ had a surprisingly big impact and generated a lot of enthusiasm. Afterwards, the trainers talked in small groups about self-defence, de-escalation and civil courage: what are these things and what do they mean for us?
Later, more advanced techniques were tried out. Training with focus mitts to practise punches and kicks, which we use to defend ourselves against attacks in addition to other techniques, was also given plenty of attention. Towards the end of the crash course, we played through a few scenarios. For example, situations on the way to school or on the bus and train were discussed – here, the children and young people were able to try out what they had learned right away.
Once again, the holiday fun brought great joy to the participants and to us.
